Fascism Has Always Been In Alberta

We will always do our best to stand against fascism and its growing influence in the world. We will always be a safe haven for those who need it. I am proud to be anti-fascist and I hope you are too.
In anti-fascism we must root our understanding of fascism in the history of the world. We must understand that fascism has always been in Alberta. It is not a new threat. It is simply revealing itself more openly.
It takes only a moment of hitting the books to understand that Alberta has always been a hotbed of fascism. That it continues to be so is not surprising.
Alberta's fascism
- Eugenics, the forced sterilization of people deemed "unfit" by the state, was practiced in Alberta until the 1970s.
- Residential schools, which were used to assimilate Indigenous children into white culture, were operated in Alberta until the 1990s.

- Racist organizations like the KKK, Aryan Guard, and Proud Boys openly operate in Alberta. Alberta is a hotbed of white supremacy.
- Attacks on democracy are accelerating and the UCP intend to fully gut local politics to install their own sycophants.
- Police Budgets are ballooning out of control across Alberta while healthcare, social services, even budgets for roads are diminishing. The UCP are introducing new police forces and militarizing existing ones.
- Open Nazism is recorded with a regular basis in Alberta.
- Nazi monuments and Memorials are present in Alberta and are being protected be the police.
- Illegal Police Surveillance happens frequently in Alberta, even against elected ministers of the government.
- Police Brutality is rampant in Alberta.
This list is not exhaustive. It is simply a starting point. Honestly the amount of cursed things happening in Alberta is overwhelming.
What Can We Do? Be Pro-Community
We can stand together. We can fight back. We can be anti-fascist.
The ways in which we do this are by building community, supporting each other, and openly mocking, destesting, and hounding fascists. We build strength in each other. We welcome all who are willing to learn and grow.

Pride Corner
I believe that Pride Corner might be the single longest sustained anti-fascist protest in Alberta's history. I say this because the fight for Pride Corner, specifically the intersection of Whyte Avenue and 104th Street, has been going on now for nearly 4 years. The fight is against street charlatans has been a monumental effort and has shown the power of community organizing.
Tawaw Outreach Collective
Tawaw is an Indigenous-led, grassroots harm reduction organization in Treaty 6 [edmonton]. They do outreach, filling a gap where governments are failing. They are a vital part of the community and we are proud to support them.
HARES
HARES is a mutual aide group doing street outreach in in amiskwaciwaskahikan. They have been hosting food drives, clothing drives, and other events to support the community for years now.
What Can You Do?
There is so much more that can be done. We can all do our part. There are choices you can make today that will help.

Support local businesses that are anti-fascist. If you can choose between buying something used or new, buy used. If you can choose between buying from a big box store or a local store, buy local.

Avoid Corporate Media. They are fascist enablers. They are almost universally owned and operated by apologists who will not call a fascist a fascist. If you see, with your own eyes, fascist salutes, and the media source you read calls them anything other than fascists, you are reading fascist propaganda.

Stop Participating in Surveillance Capitalism. This is a big one. Stop using Google, Facebook, Amazon, and other big tech companies. They are fascist enablers. Their data is already being used to jail migrants, hound environmental activists, and track you specifically. Stand Up, Fight Back
We can do this. We can fight back. We can win.
There is a future for this land where we are returned to the people. Where we are free to live, love, and grow. Food grows, water flows, and the sun shines. We can have a future where we are free from fascism.
