things are not getting worse, they are getting uncovered. we must hold each other tight and continue to pull back the veil.
I feel immensely different watching this inauguration then I did the last time Trump won. I cried, alone, in a campus pub, the last time Trump won. I forced myself to watch his acceptance and raged nearly every day for 4 years.
Then Biden won. Bro could barely put together a coherent sentence and the U.S.A put him up anyway. The impotence of Democrats in power was incredible to watch. They couldn't convict a man who tried to overthrow democracy, make any changes to growing enequality, and provided cover for a genocide.
So this time, when Trump won, it almost felt like "oh of course, history repeats". I was sad however more in a "stop that's annoying" kind of way. Sure I am angry however not enraged. Some of it was soooo funny. Like the timing of Carrie Underwoods performance was so funny dude. I honestly chalk up my response this time to having done a tonne of therapy the last few years and being able to set better emotional boundaries for myself.
I was surprised by the full seig heil on day one however it's honestly not that far off what was to be expected. They need to normalize that behaviour because its going to start happening a tonne. A boatload of other fascist regimes are born and sustained through democratic means. The U.S.A was always a state built on fascism, racism, capitalism, patriarchy, and the empire has been driving genocide for years.
So this is all to say, we are finally seeing the U.S.A political and wealthy class for what they are; Oligarchs. Fascists. Incompetent.
This is not to say the next years are not going to be incredibly painful. Trump-ism will devastate our neighbors, the real people of America. All the mass surveillance, weapons, and control techniques they have been trialing across the world and pointedly in Gaza are going to come back to American soil. The machine of fascism takes time to spin up, however, without fail, fascists must eat their own. Releasing and empowering 1,500 Jan. 6th insurrectionists, replacing the whole government with loyalists, and building up the mechanism of mass detention, is super duper expensive and difficult to maintain. They must steal even greater amounts of money from the American public to make it work. Americans will only fall for presidential pump and dump schemes so many times before the money just doesn't make sense anymore. The outcome though, is that America is being unveiled for what it is, a capitalist state grappling with end-state fascism. The oligarchs are parading around, having "won" without knowing they have already jumped the shark. Powers greater then imaginary dollars, namely climate change and inequality, are already tearing the seems. They are showing themselves. We know who they are. We can find them. When we are hungry, will know whose door to knock on.
For a bit of hope; know that this unvieling is also happening in real time in Canada. We are seeing these forces more clearly every day. Heck, even the most conservative people in Alberta can't cover it up. The final command of "ignore your eyes, ears, and feelings for dear leader" is more difficult then ever. I have faith in my neighbors and we will see greener pastures.
